1.0 Background

Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) is an independent non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in Tanzania with the mission to address public health priority challenges in sub-Saharan Africa through innovative scientific evidence, training & capacity building and knowledge translation. AAPH provides a platform for north-south and south-south learning to develop collaborative and sustainable research and programs, with the aim of benefiting population health. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, AAPH aims to contribute to the development of public health professionals who are equipped to address identified gaps in delivery of health systems and health services research.

AAPH wishes to engage a reputable Media Consultant to carry-out media coverage at the upcoming Conference on Adolescent Health in Sub-Saharan Africa (CAH-SSA). The successful Media Consultant will be provided with a shot term contract for the period of performance.

The objective of the CAH-SSA is to establish a platform for the DASH Network strengthening and knowledge exchange, transfer, translation and utilization within and beyond the Network.

2.0 Scope of the work

The media consultant will be required to travel to Addis Ababa - Ethiopia between 24th June and 28th June 2024 to attend the CAH-SSA, capture and produce the following sessions:

  1. The full day ARISE Network In-Person Training on Introduction to Adolescent Health and Nutrition.
  2. Highlights of the Future of Health and Economic Resilience (FHERA) - ARISE Doctoral Training Meeting.
  3. Highlights of the First meeting of the Africa Think Tank for Adolescents and Youth Health (ATTYAH).
  4. Africa Think Tank for Adolescents and Youth Health (ATTYAH) Members’ interviews.
  5. Speeches, remarks, presentations and panel discussions at two-days’ main sessions for Empowering Health: Enhancing adolescent health research capacities in sub-Saharan Africa.
  6. Oral Abstract Presentations.
  7. Overall CAH-SSA Highlight Videos.

These will amount to about 45 videos in total.

3.0 Eligibility Criteria

  1. Proficient in the use of Microsoft and Adobe Media Packages (Ps, Ai, Pr, and Ae are preferred).
  2. Experienced in field photography, graphics designing, production directing, still picture, video recording and editing as well as post production.
  3. Demonstrate capability to translate, design and disseminate scientific content in form of media for a wider and diverse audiences.
  4. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills – in person and online – including fluency in both Swahili and English.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrate problem solving and analytical skills.
  8. Self-directed, goal-oriented, organized with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  9. Experience in working with NGOs with active research/project/trainings focus is an added advantage.
  10. A Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related fields is an added advantage.

4.0 Deliverables

  1. Attend the CAH-SSA in Addis Ababa – Ethiopia between the 24th June and 28th June 2024.
  2. Capture and produce videos and pictures for the mentioned sessions in section 2.0.
  3. Deliver raw photographs and videos on the evening of each CAH-SSA day.
  1. Deliver edited highlight videos from the 01st July 2024.
  2. Deliver all highlight and main videos by 14th July 2024.

5.0 Selection Criteria

Interested parties are welcome to apply and should be ready to provide the following information:

  1. Certificate of Registration and authorization to conduct media consultancy or equivalent.
  2. Professional Profile of the media consultant(s).
  3. References and details of the similar work undertaken within the last three years prior to 2024.
  4. Implementation proposal and fee for the engagement including the withholding tax.
